Mr. Kitchens comes to Heritage as a career teacher of 26 years, 24 of which have been in the Plano ISD. He began his teaching career in Louisiana in 1983 where he taught grades 6-12 for two years. He and his wife moved to Dallas in 1984 so that Mr. Kitchens could attend SMU, where he studied with Howard Dunn. Upon completion of his Master’s Degree in 1986, Mr. Kitchens accepted a job at Shepton High School in Plano. In 1990, Renner Middle School opened and within 3 years under his direction, the band program had grown to almost 600 members. Mr. Kitchens was recognized as Renner’s “Teacher of the Year” in 1990 as well. |

Mr. Kitchens’ bands are consistent Sweepstakes recipients at UIL Concert and Sight Reading Contests, as well as Best In Class and Outstanding Performing Group at music festivals across the region. At Heritage, Mr. Kitchens will be an assistant director with the marching band and direct the Symphonic Band and Jazz Band. |

He resides in Plano with his wife of 25 years, Dianne, and has two sons, Daniel and David. Daniel is in his 3rd year at TCU as a horn performance major, and David is entering TCU as a Freshman business major with a minor in music and Spanish. |
